The family of a man stabbed to death at a house party today spoke of their grief.
The body of father-of-two Michael Ashley Hill was discovered by paramedics called to a house in Coquet Street, Chopwell, Gateshead, at 6.30am on Saturday 9th December.
Mr Hill's family have gathered at his home in St Mary's Crescent, Consett, County Durham, to support each other.
He lived with his partner, his four-year-old son and three-year-old daughter on a quiet street in the Blackhill area of the town.
His aunt siad "We're all in total shock. We cannot believe this has happened to Michael.
"At the moment we have so many unanswered questions and are just relying on the police to help us find out how Michael died.
"We're desperately trying to make sense of what has happened and we would like to be left alone to grieve."
Det Chief Insp Winton Keenan said: "Michael died of a single stab wound, which once again brings home the horrors of carrying knives.
"Not only has a young man died needlessly in the prime of his life but two young children have been left fatherless. Our thoughts are with the family at this terrible time."
